Urdu is a widely spoken language in Kuwait, predominantly by the expatriate community hailing from South Asia, including Pakistan and India. These Urdu-speaking individuals often face challenges related to their legal status, work permits, and social integration in Kuwait. Despite their contributions to the local economy and society, they may still encounter discrimination and barriers to full participation in Kuwaiti society. On the other hand, the Schengen Zone offers a completely different experience in terms of travel freedom within its borders. Citizens of Schengen countries enjoy the privilege of traveling without the need for a visa, experiencing a sense of unity and interconnectedness across Europe. This stands in stark contrast to the hurdles faced by the Urdu-speaking community in Kuwait, where bureaucratic processes and legal restrictions can limit their mobility and opportunities. The contradictions between the Schengen Zone and the Urdu-speaking community in Kuwait highlight the disparity in access and rights experienced by different groups of people in today's globalized world. While the Schengen Zone promotes an open and integrated Europe, the struggles of the Urdu community in Kuwait shed light on the challenges faced by migrant populations in the Gulf region. As we reflect on these contradictions, it becomes clear that more efforts are needed to bridge the gap between the ideals of freedom and mobility promoted by the Schengen Zone and the realities faced by marginalized communities such as the Urdu-speaking population in Kuwait. By addressing issues of legal status, social integration, and equality, we can work towards creating a more inclusive and equitable society for all individuals, regardless of their background or nationality.
